Day 2

November 14, 2016 (posted on Nov. 15th)

Hey Friends!

First, I would like to apologize for the delay on this post.  I was pretty exhausted last night and fell asleep at my computer while editing photos.  But here I am, to keep you all up to date with my travels.  Yesterday, we left from Eureka, California and headed into the Redwoods.  The longest stop from this leg of the journey was Patrick's Point, where we hiked around and lounged on the beach, watching surfers and porpoises playing in the waves.  It was quite nice.

Going from the high desert of Colorado to the Oregon Coast is a bit of a shock.  We went from a brown, dry, easily combustible environment to this lush, green, maybe a little soggy wonderland.  Half of the day is spent going in and out of the fog.   It's awesome.

Before I go on some of these traveling/photography trips, I often pick up little props that I think might add to a photo, or generally be used to make an interesting photo.  On this trip, I decided to carry along a crystal ball.  I've seen some beautiful photos using them, but I am now not quite sold.  I will continue to try because, you know, practice makes perfect. But here is one that I think turned out generally nice...

You know, when you're on the road, you never know who you're going to run into.  Some people are nice, some are having a rough day, and some just want to go about their day, munching on mushrooms.  On Day 2 or my trip, that is exactly who I met.  Barry the Banana Slug.  He was sitting on a very picturesque log on a trail down to the beach.  It was almost like he was posing.

At the end of the day, we found an amazing Bed & Breakfast called Mt. Emily Ranch.  It's a 138 acre working farm, high on the side of Mt. Emily in Brookings, Oregon.  And that is where I am writing to you from right now.  We're going to head out of here, back to the Redwoods for the day and end in Florence...we think..  Talk to you tomorrow!
